In addition to our fellowship programming, Just Media supports young writers to develop and publish stories at partner publications. To share your story, fill out the form here. For accepted pitches, we offer writers a $100 stipend in addition to any compensation offered by partner outlets.
Our priority is to support emerging writers ages 18-24. While our editorial capacity is limited, we may consider pitches from others based on fit.
Here are a few guidelines for pieces we consider. For examples of the types of stories we support, check out past work here.
Topic: Is your topic related to policing, prisons, or criminal justice reform? If not, this story is probably not in our wheelhouse.
Local focus: Where is your story based? Our priority is reported pieces on local topics. We may consider personal narrative pieces related to folks' direct experiences with or impact from the system.
Reporting plan: Do you have a good sense of grassroots groups or directly-impacted people who you'll talk to?
Timeliness: What makes this story relevant to readers today?
We will respond to all pitches within 2 weeks of submission. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
