Just Media is hiring a Development Coordinator

We’re hiring a part-time coordinator to support Just Media’s continued growth and sustainability. The coordinator will work with a small team of staff dedicated to supporting young storytellers to cover policing, prison, and justice issues from a grassroots movement perspective. ** NOTE: Based on interest and fit, we’ll consider expanding the scope of the Development Coordinator role to include social media and communications coordination. Interest in an expanded role is not a requirement for applying. **

Hours: 15 hours per week, including planning and attending weekly staff calls. Flexibility to set your own schedule

Location: Remote within the United States. Preference to those who work on the East Coast, with special consideration for those based in Philly

Compensation: $2,000 stipend per month (contract position)

Responsibilities

  • Prospect, apply for, and track grants for Just Media’s programs and general operations

  • Work closely with Just Media’s staff to document our work and highlight learnings, visions, and stories to report to funders

  • Set up calls and communicate with funders and organizational partners as needed

  • Run communication between Just Media and funders, coordinating with JM team members as needed

  • Help track and edit budgets and cash flow as needed

  • Participate in team meetings and support general operations in alignment with interests and needs

Expectations

  • Track record of securing grants and supporting start-up organizations to achieve sustainable funding

  • Experience building or maintaining relationships with non-profit funders, specifically in the realm of movement journalism, media, and advocacy 

  • Commitment to movement media, rooted in organizing and the lived experiences of folks impacted by policing, prisons, and justice issues

  • Strong sense of self and identity, and ability to represent the needs of young people from structurally marginalized identities

  • Strong writer and communicator

  • Preferred but not required: Experience in advocacy, organizing, or media within communities impacted by justice issues, existing relationships with potential values-aligned organizations and funders
